The first meeting of our Comenius Partnership was held in Preili, Latvia.
We spent a couple of days exploring Riga, with its beautiful Art Nouveau buildings before travelling down to Preili, where our 4 students, Alasdair, Ella, Sophie and Kirsty, stayed with host families.
Riga is a fascinating city which stills bears witness to the prosperity this country once had. However, the museum documents the devastatingly sad history of the country, which suffered occupation by Germany and the Soviet Union.
Preili Gymnasium is a prestigious school and the majority of the students go on to study at university. The students there took a great interest in their traditional folklore and songs, and we were entertained on the first morning at the school by the dancers and musicians – both of which the school has in abundance.

When we came back from Latvia, the pupils presented photos of their trip at a School Assembly as well as holding a Latvian Christmas Evening for the wider community.
