“Our Forefathers’ Regional Historical and Cultural Heritage”
This project started for Gairloch High School back in June 2010 with an email from Henning Fruth in Germany, asking if I would like to become involved in a Comenius Partnership. He was already in touch with schools from Latvia, Italy, Greece and Turkey and they would be keen to have a Scottish school join them.
Our partner schools are:
Preili State Gymnasium in Latvia
7th General Lyceum of Ilion in Greece
Istituto Istruzione Superiore”C. Golgi” in Italy
I wasn’t quite sure what the project would involve – at that point we had no working title, but Henning convinced me that Comenius Partnerships are not only worthwhile, but also great fun to take part in.
Our partnership co-ordinator, Anna, teaches English in Preili State Gymnasium in Latvia. She and Henning both already had some experience of Comenius Partnerships, which proved to be a great help in getting things off the ground.
We agreed that the theme of history and culture was a good one to focus on, and our application went in just before our summer holidays.
Once we were all back at our schools it was good news nearly all round – all the schools had been accepted, except Turkey. It was sad to say goodbye to Kenan, even though I had only emailed him, but he’s still in touch with Henning and I think he’s involved in another project now.
So, come September 2010, the rush was on to get started. We didn’t have time to organise a preliminary meeting; we were all suddenly busy preparing our first presentations for the initial meeting in Preili.
